Feds warn about cyberattacks on energy, industrial firms

A joint statement by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned of an ongoing “multi-stage intrusion campaign” targeting aviation, energy, and nuclear industries. The agencies reported that several of their security networks had been compromised.
Hackers used third parties as gateways to company-controlled sites to access information on equipment and organization designs and control-system capabilities. These revelations imply an escalation of threats identified in an earlier June report.
